Minimum Size Doors
Calculations for wood doors are made by using our standard 2 1/2" wide stiles and rails. Mortise and tenon drawer fronts are also calculated using 2 1/2" stiles and rails. For wood doors and drawer fronts that need to be smaller than the minimum size, there are three possibilities: A) For raised panel doors and drawer fronts, the minimum sizes are calculated based on a 1 1/4" panel profile reveal. B) For mortise and tenon doors, the minimum sizes will automatically have reduced stiles and rails. The narrowest reduced width of a stile and rail is 1 1/2". The smallest minimum width for a center rail or a center stile is 1 3/4". Our computer will determine which size between 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" will work the best. Standard mortise and tenon drawer fronts are also calculated with 2 1/2" stiles and rails. C) If a door is ordered smaller than the minimum size and changing the panel profile or reducing the stiles and rails will not allow mortise and tenon construction, the door will be made as a slab drawer front with the same outside edge used on your doors. The wood grain will run parallel with the grain in your doors and will be priced as a drawer front. The calculations for MDF doors and drawer fronts are made by using our standard 2 1/2" wide stiles and rails. The narrowest reduced width is 1 1/2". Our computer will determine which size between 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" will work the best. Therefore, the minimum size with reduced stiles and rails will be 1 1/2" smaller than the size that is listed. If the stiles and rails have been reduced and the door is still under the minimum size, it will be made and priced as a slab door with a matching outside edge.
Oversize Doors/Center Rail Placement
Any door over 12 sq. ft. will be considered oversize and will carry a $5.00 per sq. ft. upcharge. This does not include frame doors, mullion doors, or MDF doors. All doors with a 32" or wider raised center panel or any slab door over 32" will be considered oversize and carry a $5.00 per sq. ft. upcharge. This does not apply to MDF doors.
Doors that are over 48" high will have a center rail added and carry an upcharge. This does not apply to frame doors, mullion doors or MDF doors. Doors over 48" high that are ordered without a center rail have no warranty against width bowage. This does not apply to frame or mullion doors. Raw MDF doors have a maximum width of 48" and a maximum height of 96". Frame and mullion doors will only have a center rail addif it is specified on the order. Certain double panel doors can have a 60/40 split or a 50/50 split. This refers to the center rail placement. In a 50/50 split, the rail is centered, and in a 60/40 split the upper panel is the large panel and makes up 60% of the total visual opening space while the lower panel makes up 40%. Center rail placement may be specified. If you specify custom placement of the center rail, the dimension we need is the distance from the top of the top rail to the top of the center rail.
Measurements / Sample Doors
To ensure consistency, please order exact sizes. We do not add or subtract anything from your sizes. When a customer service reprsentative is corresponding with you, there is a proper order in which sizes are referred to. For doors and drawer fronts say width then height.
Sample doors for display kitchens are available for list price less 30%. If a sample door is needed to show a customer a certain style, type of wood, or stain color, we suggest that you order a door that will be usable on the actual job. Doors for this purpose will be considered samples and are eligible for the 30% discount. If you are interested in collecting a group of sample doors, we suggest 12" x 15" as the standard size. This size is moderately priced and easy to transport, yet large enough to show the features of most door styles. We reserve the right to limit sample door orders based on your purchases during the past year.
